Rabbit and the Dog-Head

Frog and Rabbit needed hunting dogs. A dog cost twelve biscuits. Frog bought himself a dog, but Rabbit had eaten most of his biscuits, so he could only afford a dog-head.
When they brought down a deer, Rabbit ran there first, kicked Frog's dog out of the way, and then clamped his dog-head's teeth around the deer's leg. "My dog-head brought down the deer!" Rabbit shouted. "The meat is mine!"
Frog protested. "No dog-head can do that!"
"Just look!" insisted Rabbit. "Dog-heads are good hunters."
So Frog cut off his dog's head, but somehow it never did catch any deer.

Inspired by: Folk Culture on St. Helena Island, South Carolina by Guy Johnson.
Notes: This is story 1: Dog and Dog Head. Compare: Anansi and the Dog-Head. Often Rabbit's partner tricks him back, just as in the Anansi story, but here Rabbit's partner foolishly imitates Rabbit.
