This is a story about the twin sons of King Rama, Lava and Kusha, living in exile with their mother, Sita.
One day Lava saw a beautiful horse running free without a rider.
"Whoever catches that horse will rule the kingdom," said the people.
Lahu chased the horse, but he couldn't catch it.
Then his brother Kusha arrived. "Mother says you must come home now."
"I can't come until I catch that horse," said Lava.
"You cannot catch the horse by chasing it," said Kusha. "Instead, you must run forward to meet it.
Using Kusha's advice, Lava caught the horse.
Inspired by: Big Tales by Hazrat Inayat Khan, compiled and edited by Mansur Johnson. the Hazrat Inayat Khan Study Database.
Notes: This is a story in Part 1 of the book: Lahu and Kalanki. In the story, Inayat Khan calls the horse by the name "Kalanki" (I'm not sure about that name; it sounds like Kalki), and he calls Rama's son Lahu (as in the name of the city Lahore); he does not call the second son by name. I have used the traditional Sanskrit names Lava and Kusha.
