The Ant's Petition to God

There was an ant who lamented his life. "We ants are bold and brave," said the ant to himself, "and we work hard, but still the humans tread upon us, killing us wantonly. I must seek relief from God!"
So the ant took his petition to God. "Oh God," prayed the ant, "please make it so that when we bite one of the humans, that human will die."
"That is an unkind wish, you wretched creature!" said God. "Henceforth not only will humans crush you underfoot, but they will have the power to crush you between their fingers too."
