This is a collection of Indian fables which I am taking from different sources. So far, these are the sources I have used:

Panchatantra Stories

To find out more about the Panchatantra, you can start at Wikipedia. I highly recommend the Arthur Ryder translation, which is available online.

There are also many collections that derive from the Panchatantra, adding new stories along the way, such as the Hitopadesha, the stories attributed to "Bidpai," and so on.

Jataka Stories

The Jataka stories are one of the oldest folktale collections in the world. The Buddha supposedly used these stories to teach his followers, much as Jesus used parables. Each "jataka" is a "birth" of the Buddha in a previous lifetime, and at the end of the traditional Buddhist versions of the stories, the Buddha identifies who he was in the story. I have sometimes included that in the 100-word story (if there was room), and you can find the Buddha's explanation of each story in the bibliography provided for each story here.
