The Spikes and the Pit

The Spikes and the Pit were arguing.
"I'm the one who actually kills the animals," boasted Pit.
"The honor is mine!" said the Spikes. "I don't need you!"
"I don't need you either," replied Pit, and so they parted company.
Then, a boar ran by. He went around the Spikes, and when he fell into the Pit, he scrambled out easily.
Thus the Spikes and the Pit saw that they needed to work together.
When the next boar fell into the Pit, he was impaled on the Spikes, and they agreed to share the honor of the kill between them.

Inspired by: "The Spikes and the Hunter's Pit" in Mongo proverbs and fables by E. A. Ruskin, 1921.
Notes: You can read the original story online. I changed this a little so that in addition to the pit learning it couldn't function on its own, the spikes also realized the same thing.
