The Jackal and the Rabbit

Jackal and Rabbit were friends and worked together as servants on a farm.
One night, Jackal got very hungry. He raided the pantry, eating all the fat in the fat-jar.
Then, he took the little that was left and smeared it on Rabbit's face and paws.
In the morning, the farmer saw the fat was gone.
"Who ate the fat?" he shouted.
"Not me!" said Jackal. "Rabbit ate it!"
The man saw the fat on Rabbit's face and mouth and started beating Rabbit.
"I didn't do it!" Rabbit protested, but the man did not listen. He beat Rabbit to death.

Notes: You can read the original story online. In the original story the fat comes from a buck that the man had just shot. Compare a story of jackal and hyena: Jackal, Hyena, and the Man's Lard.
