Nzambi Mpungu, god of creation, heard that the white man was making people who could speak. The god grew angry and summoned the rooster into his presence.
"Rooster, I am appointing you as my ambassador," he said. "Go tell the white man that I alone am allowed to make creatures who can talk, and that it is wrong of them to make images of people with the power of speech."
Rooster went to the white man's village, but they didn't honor him, even though he was the god's ambassador, so Nzambi Mpungu turned the people of that village into monkeys.
