Rabbit saw Wolf's basket of fish. "How'd you do that?" he asked.

Notes: This story is "Buddah Wolf Fool Buddah Rabbit." The book provides detailed comparative notes. In the original, Rabbit promises to give fish to Owl for helping him; it's not clear if Rabbit really thinks his tail is full of fish, or if he is just tricking Owl.
"Tail-fishing!" Wolf replied. "I put my tail in the creek and pulled it out, full of fish."
Rabbit went to the creek and put his tail in.
Nothing.
Again.
Nothing.
He waited all night. Creek froze. Rabbit was stuck!
"Help!" he yelled.
Owl flew up and pulled Rabbit's ears. He pulled so hard Rabbit's ears got long. He pulled so hard Rabbit's eyes popped out. He pulled so hard Rabbit's tail came off!
So Rabbit has long ears, big eyes, no tail to this day.
