A husband and wife decided they would renounce the world and spend their remaining years on a holy pilgrimage.
One day the husband, walking ahead of his wife, saw a diamond lying in the dust of the road. He scratched at the ground, trying to bury the diamond so his wife would not see it and lapse back into worldly desires.
His wife noticed what he was doing and rebuked him. "What are you doing?" she asked. "Do you still see any difference between a diamond and the dust of the road? You must look beyond: there is no difference."
