The Astrologers who Predict the Weather

A certain king put great faith in astrologers and their ability to predict the weather. Once when the king went hunting, he got separated from his hunting party as he chased a stag. Then, it started raining. To escape the downpour, the king sought refuge in a peasant's hut.
"My astrologers are fools!" the king shouted. "They said nothing about this storm."
"The weather never fools me," said the peasant. "My donkey always brays when a storm is coming."
"I will make your donkey my chief astrologer," proclaimed the king, "and I will number my other astrologers among the donkeys."

Inspired byMille Fabulae et Una, a collection of Latin fables that I've edited, free to read online. I am not translating the Latin here; instead, I am just telling a 100-word version of the fable.
Notes: This is fable 892 in the book, which is not in the Perry catalog. This is a legend told about King Louis of France (1423-1483).
