Nasruddin put out mouse-poison. But the mice ate the poison, and no mice died.
"How strange!" thought Nasruddin.
He tried another type of poison, even stronger this time. Again, the mice ate the poison, and no mice died.
"How can this be?" exclaimed Nasruddin.
Then Nasruddin put out mouse-traps baited with cheese, but the mice wouldn't come near the cheese.
Then Nasruddin had an inspiration. "Since the mice like the poison so much, I'll the cheese with poison!"
When he checked the next morning, he found the mouse-traps full of mice.
Mouse problem solved!

Notes: This story, which Shah says is true, is in the foreword to the book. I decided to make it a Nasruddin story.
