The Hut in the Wind Storm

A man labored long and hard to build a hut.
As he rested happily inside, there came a mighty wind. The man prayed, "Don't destroy my hut, O Vayu!" The wind still blew.
"This house is Hanuman's!" the man said, hoping to sway the Wind God, as Hanuman was his son, but the wind still blew.
"This is Rama's own house!" he shouted. "Sri Rama Jaya Rama!"
But the wind still blew.
The man finally rushed out, barely escaping before the hut collapsed.
"This must be the devil's own house," he muttered. "The wind is welcome to have it."

Inspired byTales and Parables of Sri Ramakrishna
Notes: This is story 42 in the book. Vayu, the god of the wind, is the father of the monkey god, Hanuman, who was the devoted follower of Rama, avatar of Vishnu. Sri Rama Jaya Rama are the words of a hymn to Rama. In Ramakrishna's story, the man also invokes Lakshmana, Rama's brother, before he invokes Rama.
