Nasruddin on his Donkey

Nasruddin and his donkey were both well known to the inhabitants of the town. So, when Nasruddin went riding through the town one day sitting backwards on his donkey, someone just had to ask what he was doing.
"Why are you riding backwards like that?" said the man to Nasruddin. "You're facing the rear instead of facing forwards. Riding like that, you can't even see which way you are going!"
"You're mistaken, my friend," Nasruddin replied. "I'm sitting the right way; I know what I'm doing. It's the donkey who's backwards. Donkeys can be very stubborn that way, you know."

Inspired by: This is Nasruddin Tale Type T0055.
Notes: In another story, Nasruddin explains why he rides backwards on the donkey when people accompany him on foot: People Follow Nasruddin on His Donkey. There is also a story very similar to this one where Nasruddin has changed his mind about which way to go, and the donkey just has not caught on yet: Changing Directions.
