In a certain village, there was a lame woman. Everyone scorned her.
When a handsome man came looking for a bride, he chose the lame woman, and the people all laughed at him. "You're a fool!" they said.
After the man married the woman, he give her a little bird. "Take care of it," he said, "and you'll be rewarded."
The man went away.
Then came drought and a famine, but when the bird opened its beak, out poured food and drink, so the village was saved.
In time, the lame woman learned to walk.
No one scorned her again.
