The people gave Jackal a goat-skin that they used for churning milk and told him to go wash it in the river. "If you bring it back nice and clean," they said, "we'll give you a reward."
Jackal took the goat-skin in his mouth and walked towards the river. As he walked, he thought to himself, "What reward will they give me? I can't imagine any reward better than this goat-skin." So Jackal ate the goat-skin and then went back to the people.
"Where is the goat-skin?" they shouted at him.
"I ate it as my reward," replied Jackal, smiling.

Notes: You can read the original story online. The original story refers to a "churn skin," which would be some kind of skin used for churning milk. I decided just to call it a goat-skin and leave it at that.
