The chicken and her chicks were scratching for food around the dung-heap.
One chick found a big worm.
"Brother," said another chick, "share it with me."
"No!" said the first chick. "It's mine."
When the other chick complained to their mother, she said, "You and your brothers did not suckle at my breast and learn to love each other. Instead, you each hatched alone. All we have in common is this dung-heap, and each one scratches for himself."
So the chick went back to scratching, and when he too found a worm he did not share it with his brothers.
