The Baboon, the Hyena and the Jackal (1)

Baboon, Hyena, and Jackal went hunting for goats together, but Baboon kept shouting, "Look! Goats!" so the goats ran away.
"We need to get rid of Baboon," Hyena told Jackal. Jackal agreed, so they went to Lion.
"Baboon must die for disrupting our hunt!" they said.
Lion then summoned Baboon, but before Lion could sentence him to death, Baboon shouted, "O King, I see you don't have shoes; let me make shoes for you!"
"What materials do you require?" Lion asked.
"A hyena-skin and a jackal-skin!" Baboon replied.
So Lion killed Hyena and Jackal, and Baboon made them into shoes.

Inspired by: "The Baboon, the Hyena and the Jackal"  in Ethiopian Folktales collected by Elizabeth Laird (website).
Notes: You can read the original story online. The original version was a bit confusing since it did not explain just why the Jackal and Hyena proposed that Baboon should make shoes for Lion, since they wanted to kill him, so I shifted it around to make Baboon be the one who proposes shoes. Here is what happens next: The Baboon and the Lion.
