Sitting in a tree, Sparrow noticed some tempting berries below, but when he dived to grab the berries, a snare caught him.
Hen heard Sparrow squawking. Being much bigger than the Sparrow, she jumped up on the snare; her weight opened the trap and Sparrow flew free.
"You saved me!" said Sparrow gratefully.
Later on, when Hen was in the barn, Sparrow saw Hawk circling overhead, planning to carry away Hen's chicks. Sparrow swooped down and led the chicks into the safety of the barn.
"You saved my children!" said Hen gratefully.
That is how Sparrow and Hen became friends.

Notes: You can read the original story online. The story also has a short bit at the beginning about the sparrow refusing to build nests.
