Arjuna Goes into Exile

Then one day the unthinkable happened: in a hurry to retrieve weapons he had left in Yudhishthira's chambers, Arjuna walked in on his brother and Draupadi. Having thus violated their brotherly agreement, Arjuna went into self-imposed exile for twelve years.
During this time, Ulupi, a naga princess, became his lover and mother of his son Iravan.
Chitrangada, a warrior princess, became his wife and mother of his son Babhruvahana.
Arjuna also married Krishna's sister, Subhadra, who became the mother of his son Abhimanyu.
He already had a son with Draupadi, Shrutakarma.
His penance complete, Arjuna rejoined his family at Indraprastha.

Inspired byThe Mahabharata: A Shortened Modern Prose Version by R. K. Narayan
Notes: This story is from Chapter 5: Uncle's Gift. Narayan says the exile lasted twelve years; in his Jatya (p. 115), Pattanaik says it last one year.
