There was a boy, and Anansi and his mother wanted to kill him.
So the boy waited until Anansi went off, and then he killed Anansi's mother. He put on her clothes and boiled her in a stew.
Anansi came home, and the boy said, "I killed that boy all by myself, and I boiled him in a stew!"
"Thank you, mother!" Anansi munched the meat and crunched the bones. "It's delicious!"
Then the boy threw off the mother's clothes and ran away.
"Oh no!" shouted Anansi. "I munched my mother!"
That was the only boy who ever fooled Anansi.
Inspired by: Jamaica Anansi Stories by Martha Warren Beckwith
Notes: This is story 98 in the book. Beckwith heard this story from Richard Morgan; additional information in Beckwith's notes. I tried to get some of the word play in English as in the original story: "a me mamma been nyam!" (nyam = eat). Brer Rabbit does the same to Wolf and his grandmother: Old Grinny Granny Wolf (the old granny wolf can barely see, so Brer Rabbit fools her into thinking he is the wolf).
