Smoking in the Garden

Two disciples, one younger and one older, walked in the garden between meditation sessions. The walking itself was a meditation for them.
They both smoked, so they asked their teacher for permission to smoke in the garden.
The next day, the older disciple saw the younger smoking.
"But the teacher told me no!" he said.
"He told me yes," the other replied.
"I don't understand," complained the older disciple. "I asked our teacher if I could smoke while meditating, and he said absolutely not."
"Ah," said the younger, "that explains it. I asked him if I could meditate while smoking."
