The Farmer's Cotton Harvest

A foolish farmer took his harvest of cotton to the market to sell, but no one wanted to buy it.
"It's filthy!" someone told him. "You have to clean the cotton before you can sell it."
The farmer saw a long line of customers at the goldsmith's stall.
"Your gold must be very clean!" he said to the goldsmith.
"My gold is the most pure you will find!" the goldsmith said proudly. "I clean it in the fire."
So the farmer threw all his cotton into the fire, hoping to clean it, and he ended up with nothing at all.
