Sabzpari, the Emerald Fairy

Sabzpari was a dancer in the court of Indra, King of the Gods.
She fell in love with Prince Gulfam, a human, and brought him to heaven, keeping their love a secret from Indra.
Gulfam was jealous of the time she spent dancing in Indra's court.
"No human may go there!' she said, but he insisted.
She took him to court, hiding him in her wings. But Indra saw Gulfam and hurled him down from heaven.
Then he had Sabzpari's wings torn off until she forgot about her love for Gulfam; only then would she be welcomed back into heaven.

Inspired byBig Tales by Hazrat Inayat Khan, compiled and edited by Mansur Johnson. the Hazrat Inayat Khan Study Database.
Notes: This is a story in Part 1 of the book: Indra Sabha (Indra's Court). Here is Inayat Khan's interpretation: "Sabzpari is a soul drawn to the material body. When the soul involves itself in the earthly body which Gulfam signifies, then the soul involved in the body becomes absord in earthly experiences: its love on earth, its joy on earth, and its comfort on earth."
