Being on the Path

Abu Said had many followers. Some disciples were far advanced in their spiritual journey; others not so much.
One night a not-so-advanced disciple had too much wine to drink. He became so drunk, in fact, that he passed out on the road, and that's where the other disciples found him.
"We found him passed out on the road in a drunken stupor," they said to Abu Said. "You will have to punish him. He's lying right there on the road!"
"Is that so?" replied Abu Said. "I say: God be praised that he is on the path, and not off."
